Basic Methods to Clean Your Stainless Steel

With its natural beauty, shine and durability, it's no wonder why stainless steel is one of the most popular surface for household appliances. Although it is extremely resistant to corrosion, it is not completely impervious to it. Blemish, soil and fingerprints can take away from the beauty of your stainless steel, but with the right cleaning methods and products, you can keep your stainless steel looking perfect. Some tips on the care of stainless steel are listed below:
  • Use a paper towel or soft microfiber cloth to clean stainless steel.
  • Handle stainless steel with clean gloves or clothes to guard against strains or finger marks.
  • Avoid using glass cleaners, all purpose cleaners and harsh chemicals like chlorine or bleach because they may leave streaks and damage or discolor the outer protective layer of the surface.
  • Don't leave ordinary steel in contact with stainless steel under damp conditions because an adverse reaction between the metals may cause discoloration.
  • Even the finest cleaning powders can scratch or burnish a mill-rolled finish. On polished finishes, rubbing or wiping should be done in the direction of the polish lines, not across them.
  • Use a high-quality, non-abrasive cleaner that is specially formulated for stainless steel.
  • Where possible, after cleaning, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Make sure to completely dry the surface after cleaning to prevent spotting and streaking.
